Engine calibration - automotive
Context and objectives of the project
Our consultant works for a leader in the Automotive sector in Italy. At the CRF research center (in Naples), the new gasoline engines are tested and calibrated to meet the new global emission standards and the driving and performance requirements of the market. GDI engines have to deal with the problem of soot (PM) emissions.
The After Treatment System (ATS) team is responsible for calibrating the engine control unit to ensure that the gasoline particulate filter functions properly.
Realisations and activities
- Model the physical phenomena of accumulation and regeneration of the filter
- Perform and prepare automatic tests on the engine test bed, both to collect data for modeling and to test the effectiveness of software modifications.
- Supervise the dismantling and weighing activities of the GPF to measure the mass of stored soot
- Post process the acquired data and prepare activity reports
- Occasionally assist and support vehicle test bed activities
