Team MCA

Simone, Robotic engineer

On the blog today we discover the career path of Simone, Robotic engineer in MCA Italy.

Hello Simone, can you introduce yourself in a few words?

Hi, I'm Simone Mazzola, I've accomplished the bachelor degree in biomedical engineering at the University of Genoa, Italy, then I finished my academical path obtaining the master degree with the EMARO course (European Master in Advanced Robotics) split between University of Genoa and Ecole Centrale de Nantes.

I do like sports, basically I play basket all year long but during winter I look forward skiing. Now that I work in Turin this last part will be definitely easier to pursue.

What brought you into the engineering world? Was it something you always considered to be your professional path?

Since I was young, I liked computer science and technology in general. Growing up I chose the university path that was the best mix; when I heard about the robotics course in Genoa I didn't hesitate to sign up for it.

In your opinion, what are the main qualities necessary to succeed as an engineer?

It is difficult to say what is necessary in general, what worked for me during studies is perseverance and method, but also not be afraid of failures.

In the working field I can say that what works in general is taking "a step back" while analyzing a problem, reorganizing which are the technical features involved.

How did you got in touch with MCA Italy? How did the recruitment process go?

Actually, I had a first contact after my graduation, before I find my first job, but it was not the right time for me.

After that it happened that two university's colleagues of mine started working here, so I knew about how good MCA was collaborating with clients and especially how good the working environment was.

Then I got in touch with MCA for the second time, I started the recruitment process with Francesca Belardinelli and then with Luigi Minniti. Both of them gave me the right impression about the company, with an interesting project opportunity.

What is your current project, in which industry?

I'm working for COMAU in the cybersecurity team with two MCA colleagues.

What do you like the most about your project, and what do you find challenging?

I had the opportunity to discover how an important company like COMAU works, their main streams and in which way these are all bonded by cybersecurity. What I like the most of my project is its transversality, cybersecurity for industry is slightly different from the IT one and for some aspects it makes it more challenging.

How do you see yourself evolving within the industry, and MCA?

It is too early to tell for me. The more you discover the more you realize that you don't know.

What do you appreciate the most about working at MCA?

MCA is a very young company, and in my opinion this makes it not only dynamic but also a stimulating working place. Another aspect is the easier possibility to share common interests with colleagues, which is important both for work and the free time.

Any advice for some new engineer stepping into his career?

Just pursue what you have studied for. Working environment is very different from the university one, so it can take some time to find your way. Maybe I haven't found it yet either.
