Julien, systems and network security engineer - cybersecurity expert

On the blog today we discover Julien's background, Systems and Network Security Engineer on cybersecurity.

Can you introduce yourself in a few words?

Hello everyone, my name is Julien and I am an engineer specialized in cybersecurity.

I grew up and studied in Lyon. I got a scientific baccalaureate, then I went to a preparatory class before joining Telecom Sup Paris. I followed a Digital Engineering course, with a specialization in computer security.

How did you get into the world of engineering? Did you always want to become an engineer?

With my scientific baccalaureate, I had two options: engineering or medicine.

Since medicine was not necessarily a field that evoked a vocation in me, I naturally turned to engineering studies and I have no regrets about this choice, which in retrospect suits me very well.

How did you get in touch with MCA and how did your onboarding go?

I was lucky enough to be approached directly by MCA after my studies. The recruitment process was very quick and efficient. I joined the client's teams very quickly: I was in the thick of things in just a few days!

As for my integration, it was smooth and without hindrance. I have a very good relationship with my manager and the whole team in Lyon. The atmosphere is very nice, you feel good. It's very pleasant for the start of a career!

Can you tell me what is the context of your mission, in which environment is it?

The client I am working for, an industrial leader in its field, is currently setting up a cybersecurity consulting service. In this context, I intervene on the integration of the service and more specifically on the implementation and the deployment of security solutions.

What are your achievements, the tasks you carry out during this mission?

Globally, my main missions are the following:

*Solve the problems of deploying the solutions in factories,

*Adapt our solutions to the different sites/plants,

*Propose continuous improvement processes for the adoption of the various security solutions,

*Expanding the scope of technologies used to create new security solutions.

I am only at the beginning of my project (indeed, I started in March 2021) so my tasks will become denser and more diverse in the weeks and months to come. I can't wait to be there and expand my skills even more!

What technologies or tools do you use in this project?

*Generally backup solutions,

*Bastions,

*IPS / IDS.

Why did you choose cybersecurity? What do you like about this field?

I've always been attracted to the IT field in general.

In all transparency, it is also a strategic choice on my part because I know that it is a sector that hires and where opportunities are numerous.

However, I love the challenge that IT brings and even more so everything that has to do with security. This field really allows me to surpass myself and to explore new possibilities within my job.

In the future, information systems will not be able to function without security solutions. This is a reality that I have in mind and that boosts my learning and my prospects for evolution in this sector.

How do you see yourself evolving within your profession and at MCA?

I'm at the beginning of my engineering career so I'm fully focused on this first assignment. 😊 Eventually I would like to continue to evolve in security and expand my skills in this field.

What do you like about MCA? What do you think are the advantages of consulting?

What attracted me right away was the quality of the proposed missions, but also the great feeling I had with the whole team in Lyon. This is what convinced me during the recruitment process.

Overall, consulting is a good way to go when you're a young engineer. It allows you to avoid being locked into a particular sector of activity or specialty too quickly. You take fewer risks and you can work on several assignments to refine your long-term career plan.

You discover different environments and different corporate cultures. It's very enriching and a good gateway to the world of engineering!
